First-year captain Marcus Bontempelli has added another honour to an already lengthy list, with a third All Australian selection.
The 24-year-old followed his 2016 and 2019 honours with selection again in 2020, alongside influential teammates Jack Macrae and Caleb Daniel.
He also finished sixth in the AFLCA Champion Player of the Year Award, with 59 votes, and sixth in the player-voted AFL Players’ Most Valuable Player Award.
Macrae and Daniel acknowledged Bontempelli’s impact to lead by example and be a significant contributor all season.
Jack Macrae on Marcus Bontempelli…
It’s amazing what he’s been able to achieve at such an early stage of his career.
I think the way he’s managed to handle the captaincy and lead us by example at times, but also to step up at really crucial parts of games has been great.
He’s just a player that when the game gets tight, he’s going to step up for the team.
Like Caleb, when you’re running down the race he’s a player you love to be beside, because not only are they great players but great teammates.
Caleb Daniel on Marcus Bontempelli…
In his first year as captain, he’s had a pretty impressive year in a challenging year.
He’s taken it all in his stride and has really worked hard on his own game and on his teammates’ games as well.
That’s something that might be a bit unknown to people outside the football club, but the amount of work he does for his teammates is amazing.
He’s been a great player this year and a great captain.
