The Western Bulldogs got a taste of the season ahead after the release of the 2012 AFL fixture at AFL House today.

Five home blockbusters — three in the early rounds — against St Kilda (Round 3), Collingwood (Round 6), Geelong (Round 9), Carlton (Round 17), Hawthorn (Round 18) are the highlights in what is a tantalising draw for fans and members.

Western Bulldogs Chief Executive Simon Garlick was buoyant about the 2012 AFL fixture and urged fans to join The Western Front in advance of the 2012 season.

“The release of the 2012 fixture provides some genuine excitement about the big year we’ve got ahead of us.”

“It highlights the importance of making sure you get your memberships and reserved seats early to avoid disappointment,” he said.

The Bulldogs open their season against Preliminary Finalists West Coast Eagles at Etihad Stadium, but it’s more than just the start of the season that fans and members are looking forward to — it’s the first look of the fan-voted new Guernsey that has Garlick and the Bulldogs faithful excited.

“This is a great opportunity for our fans and supporters to get out and see our boys in the new Guernsey taking on what’s going to be a formidable opponent,” Garlick said.

Other key points from the 2012 AFL fixture are:
  • Eight night games
  • Play Geelong, St Kilda, Sydney, North Melbourne and Brisbane twice
  • 12 of our games will be broadcast on Channel 7 - free to air
  • Play interstate six times including a home game against Gold Coast in Darwin
