Season in short:

Courtesy of his high-intensity play and craftiness around goals, Dahlhaus attracted more attention from opponents in 2013 than ever before. And while this might have slowed him early in the season, he quickly found his rhythm once more. The excitement machine played every match, his finest effort an inspirational 29-disposal, four-goal performance against the West Coast Eagles in round 18. Overall, he finished second at the Club for goals with 28, third for tackles and sixth in the best and fairest. His pressure in the forward half was instrumental in creating contests and locking the ball in the Bulldogs’ attacking zone.

The stat that mattered:

Dahlhaus has forged a reputation of hurting the opposition with his quick snaps and smart judgement around goals, but he has just as great an impact with his defensive work. Ranked 12th in the competition for pressure acts (first at the Bulldogs), his chasing and harassment of opponents has been pivotal in creating repeat contests and chances for the Club in the forward half this season. On average Dahlhaus has been attributed with 21.2 pressure acts pre game.

What they said:

“His defensive side is just unbelievable and his workrate to get to the contest, to halve the contest, to keep the ball inside 50 to get a repeat stoppage, is a real asset that he brings to the team and very important for setting the standard for guys around him.”

- Development Coach Ashley Hansen (Round 7, 2013)

Pre-season focus:

Season 2013 saw glimpses of a new mosquito fleet emerging in Dahlhaus, Lachie Hunter and Nathan Hrovat and the trio’s work together this pre-season will no doubt strengthen their bond. While kicking efficiency will continue to be a focus for the 21-year-old, expect the small forward to spend extra time working on his endurance this pre-season to give him the fitness base and capacity to push more into the midfield in 2014.

This pre-season Luke Dahlhaus will also need to adjust to being lighter on his feet after losing his dreadlocks on tonight’s edition of Before the Game. Donate or view more information here.
