The dreadlocks have gone from the head of Western Bulldogs forward Luke Dahlhaus, and in return he's raised over $12,000 to split between The Royal Children’s Hospital Good Friday Appeal and The EJ Whitten Foundation.

Revealing his new look on Channel Ten’s 'Before the Game' last Friday night, Dahlhaus braved the chop on live national television in the grand final eve episode of the popular football panel show.

Donating $3,000, Nick Johnstone Real Estate was a significant contributor to the cause, ensuring Dahlhaus broke his $10,000 target in the days leading up to the show. Mr Johnstone is a lifelong Bulldogs supporter of the club and coterie member.

Fellow Bulldog Will Minson also generously gave $2,000 towards his teammate’s charitable act.

In total $12,275 has been raised on Dahlhaus’ fundraising page – however people can still make donations to Dahlhaus' fundraising effort until Friday 4 October 2013.

The EJ Whitten Foundation honours the legacy of Western Bulldogs legend Ted “Mr Football” Whitten who passed away after a long and public battle with Prostate Cancer.  The EJ Whitten Foundation helps raise awareness for prostate cancer and men's health, and funds research into the disease.

The Royal Children's Hospital Good Friday Appeal raises funds to buy medical equipment and fund research projects and scholarships at Victoria's major specialist paediatric hospital in Parkville, whose care extends to children from Tasmania, southern New South Wales and other states around Australia and overseas
