Domain Stadium can feel like a cauldron when the West Coast Eagles are up and going.
The supporters are loud and the old grandstands somehow trap the noise in, sending it back out onto the field with interest.
But it can work the other way too, and a key to beating the WA sides at home is to silence the crowd, and the Bulldogs did just that on Thursday night, even after a couple of early stumbles.
Tom Liberatore, speaking to BulldogsTV in the rooms following the Dogs’ stunning 47-point Elimination Final win, said his sides’ relentless pressure had the Eagles on the back foot from the first bounce.
“It was persistence really,” Liberatore said.
“We just stuck into them and made them take less risks with the ball and forced them to go down the line.
“We just played with a lot of risk and took the game on.”
Libba strikes a blow with a lovely left
The Dogs had eight shots on goal in the first term, all of which were sourced from intercept possessions, and every time an Eagle got their hands on the ball they were surrounded by two, sometimes three Bulldogs.
According to Champion Data, Luke Dalhlaus, Jack Macrae and Lachie Hunter committed a pressure act roughly every three minutes in the opening term, a big reason why the home side managed just three first half goals.
It was clinical display from a young side who’ve now got a date with Hawthorn at the MCG on Friday night.
And Tom Liberatore, for one, can’t wait.
“To win on a ground like this where we haven’t won for seven years or so.. it’s bloody unbelievable, he said.
“If we can do this here, who knows what we can do back home.”
