Jed Adcock says a “fresh environment” can only be a positive thing, as the 200-game player joined the Western Bulldogs today.
The 30-year-old trained with the Bulldogs in the week leading up to the AFL Rookie Draft, after being delisted by the Brisbane Lions at the end of the 2015 season.
Despite knowing ahead of time that the Bulldogs were likely to recruit him, Adcock said it was pleasing to have it made official in Friday’s rookie draft.
“I feel great, it’s nice to make it official.
“We probably all felt like it was going to happen today but it’s nice to officially be on the payroll you could say.”
After 206 games with the Lions, and captaining the club in 2013 and 2014, Adcock said he was optimistic the move to the Bulldogs would only help his football.
“A fresh environment can bring a lot to a career.
“It’s always nice to change things up, and learn different philosophies, game plans, structures and conditioning programs.
“I think it’s only going to help after 12 years (with Brisbane) and give my body something different to react to.
“You put that in with 45 new players that I get to meet… It’s exciting.”
While the Club’s remaining rookie selections would arrive next week, Adcock had already spent the week familiarising himself with the Club and its personnel.
“There’s a great bunch of young players and a couple of older heads which is nice.
“The coaching staff seem really nice and the general staff around are good.
“It’s nice to be at an oval and a facility where everything is in the one place.”
Adcock was selected with the Club’s third selection (pick 49) in the AFL Rookie Draft, he joins Matthew Suckling, Josh Dunkley, Kieran Collins, Marcus Adams, Bailey Williams, Brad Lynch and Luke Goetz as the Club’s off-season recruits.
