Easton Wood says the return to AFL football at Victoria University Whitten Oval for the Club’s first NAB Challenge match will be an exciting spectacle.
Speaking with SportsDay Radio on Monday, Wood said the atmosphere should be an electric one.
“I can’t wait, it’s going to be a great day on Saturday, the first time playing at the Whitten Oval in a long time.
“The atmosphere during the VFL during the year was fantastic. I was lucky to get to plenty of the games there and I think the final they had there, they had around 7000 people and they’re expecting up to 10,000 at our game”
Wood said after a big pre-season, which included the appointment of a new coach and captain, he was looking forward to putting all the hard work into practice.
“The energy and excitement in the place has been fantastic.
“I’ve absolutely loved the pre-season with the new influence, with Bevo (Luke Beveridge) coming on board and getting behind Bob Murphy as the captain.”
Wood, who played 18 games in 2014 has cemented his spot as a defender in the Bulldogs side, with the ability to play tall and small.
The 25-year-old said that although he may get the chance to move further up the ground in 2015, he is confident of where he plays his best football.
“I think it’ll be great to play a bit in the midfield but I think I’ve played so long now as a defender, I feel like I’m really hitting my strides there and that’s my best position on the ground.
“Whatever the challenge is, I look forward to.”
