It’s only been three months at an AFL club for Lukas Webb but the Bulldogs recruit is already noticing the physical benefits.
Webb says he’s been working closely with his coaching staff to improve his game, and is already seeing results after a tough summer on the track.
“I think my running has come a long way especially just in the last few months.”
“They want to develop me into a running half-back… but today we played match simulation and I played on the wing most of the time and a little bit forward.”
Webb was recruited to the Dogs with pick 27 in the NAB AFL National Draft as a utility and it is clear he has the potential to be a versatile option that could play through all areas of the ground.
The 18-year-old is gifted with a strong overhead mark and efficiency on both feet but says he’s working on improving other aspects of his game.
“Rohan Smith’s helped me out a fair bit with the backline, Joel Corey as well with the positioning and everything because it’s pretty hard to get your head around being there… it’s taken a bit to get used to.”
Although noticing significant improvements, Webb says he’s faced challenges in adjusting to expectations.
“One of my biggest challenges was backing it up every day, you sort of have to get used to training when you’re a little bit sore still.”
Speaking on the last official day of pre-season, Webb said he was looking forward to the beginning of the season.
“I’ve enjoyed it so far, I don’t really know what it’s going to be like… I’m just excited for the next little journey.”
