There were plenty of highlights, not least the four first half majors from Bailey Dale. The rangy forward had looked a player on the rise in 2017 however injury and form had curbed his football for much of the last two seasons. But after five majors last week, Dale is stringing together some excellent football. – The Age journalist, Daniel Cherny.

Most of the things we did in using each other in transition and creating opportunities out of turnover were as close to what you'd be after as you can get. Obviously, Bailey Dale makes a difference converting those set shots, and giving us that opportunity… it was encouraging stuff. We’re heading in the right direction – it’s a solid outing for us. – Western Bulldogs coach, Luke Beveridge

(The Western Bulldogs) are clearly the best team outside the eight, and yesterday’s win was their fourth from their past five matches. If not for the interim-coach curse, which worked against them last week with the Saints, the Bulldogs would be in the eight. – Herald Sun journalist, Mark Robinson.

Bailey Dale, who has had his issues with form and fitness in recent seasons, proved an inspired selection up forward, booting two goals in the opening term and another pair in the second stanza. Meanwhile, youngster Bailey Smith continued to build, booting two clever efforts, while debutant Rhylee West sent the Dogs into ecstasy when he snapped his first AFL major in the second term. The Bulldogs’ dominance was a testament to their work rate and running — and an indictment on Fremantle’s ability to keep up. – Fox Sports journalist, Anna Harrington.

With his famous father Scott — a seven-time Bulldogs best-and-fairest winner — watching on in the stands, West endeared himself to Bulldogs fans early in his first game, putting that toughness on show as he went full-steam into a marking contest which brought a heavy collision with Fremantle’s Luke Ryan only to bounce straight back up. West went on to kick his first AFL goal late in the second quarter, every Bulldogs player on the ground getting over to congratulate him. – Herald Sun journalist, Chris Cavanagh.

It was extremely special. We know what we’re going to get from (Rhylee West), a lot of hard work and effort. It was great to see him finish off with a bit of polish with that snap on his left as well. Western Bulldogs player, Jack Macrae.
