WESTERN Bulldogs recruit Justin Sherman has admitted he didn't enjoy playing football in his last two seasons at the Brisbane Lions.

The 23-year-old is headed for Whitten Oval after being traded for the end-of-first-round compensation pick the Bulldogs acquired when they lost Jarrod Harbrow to Gold Coast.

"For me it was always an individual feeling that I had that I could no longer be at the Lions and give my 100 per cent commitment every week," Sherman told afl.com.au's Trade Week Radio shortly after the paperwork to make the deal official was lodged with the League.

"In my head it was quite clear what I needed to do and where I needed to be and that was the Western Bulldogs footy club."

Playing mostly as a half-forward or wingman, Sherman ran out 17 times and kicked 12 goals for the Lions in 2010.

But he was one of many players to lack spark during the season, in which Michael Voss's men managed only seven wins.

"When you lose your enjoyment and enthusiasm for something you love then it's time to move on and go somewhere else," Sherman said.

"Hopefully that will rejuvenate my career and mean it can end the way I want it to."

Sherman's career to-date has been marred by inconsistency and that's something he's aiming to sort out at his new club.

"I told Vossy that I didn't want to live that roller-coaster ride any longer and I want to be a consistent footy player," he said. "I want to make the most of my chances and that's why I ended up at the Bulldogs.

"When I play through the midfield, I can run the lines and carry the footy. The Dogs have said they're going to put me through the midfield and that's appealing to me.

"That will help me get the most out of my footy."
