Round 7, 2021
Both teams entered their last encounter with a 4-2 record, but it was the Kangaroos who came away with a gritty 11-point win in Hobart. The Dogs conceded three opening quarter goals, which ultimately cost them in the 11-point loss. Impressively, the Dogs controlled much of the last term but couldn’t put on enough scoreboard pressure. Kirsty Lamb (21 disposals, five tackles) and Ellie Blackburn (18 disposals, four clearances) were named among the best on ground, as was Gabby Newton who finished with 11 touches and four tackles.
TALKING POINTS
Keeping the streak
The Bulldogs are now just one of two teams that remain undefeated after four rounds. It’s an impressive feat for the young Dogs’ team, which has an average age of just 22 years old. If they can make it 5-0 this weekend, the Bulldogs will also break their longest winning streak record – which currently sits at four games. The visitors have earned bragging rights the two occasions they’ve last met, with both matches also deep in enemy territory down at North Hobart Oval. Will it be third time lucky for the Bulldogs?
Midfield mania
All eyes will be on the midfield this Friday afternoon, with a plethora of prolific ball-winners to do battle. For the Bulldogs, you’ve got Kirsty Lamb and Ellie Blackburn, who are averaging 19.8 and 20 disposals respectively, while the Roos have Jasmine Garner (23.8 disposals on average) and Ash Riddell (22.3 disposals on average). Garner is also averaging 359.7 metres gained, 12.8 contested possessions and 6.5 clearances, so limiting her influence will be critical for the Dogs.
