LAST MEETING

Round 14, 2024
Western Bulldogs 23.11 (149) def. Fremantle 12.10 (82)

The Bulldogs kept their finals hopes well and truly alive with a hard-working, scintillating performance against the Dockers at Marvel Stadium. Five goals to one in the second term set up a 67-point triumph, with the midfield combination of Tom Liberatore, Marcus Bontempelli, Ed Richards and Adam Treloar holding firm. Bontempelli finished with three goals from 30 touches, while Rhylee West (four goals), Cody Weightman (three), Jamarra Ugle-Hagan (three) and Rory Lobb (three) hit the scoreboard on multiple occasions.

 WHO TO WATCH

Debuting a new lobster-inspired hairdo this week, Rory Lobb will be sure to have all eyes on him against his former team this Sunday afternoon. The 32-year-old played 66 games for the Dockers across four seasons, joining his third Club in the Bulldogs at the end of 2022. Lobb has been a force since moving to the backline, averaging 12.3 disposals, 7.7 spoils and 1.7 intercept marks from the first three games this season.

WHAT THE EXPERTS SAY

Fremantle (1-2) got its season back on track with a commanding victory over heated rival West Coast but is yet to prove that it can match it with the genuine finals contenders this year. The Dockers can at least be buoyed by reaching triple figures in the win over the Eagles as they look to add more flair in their forward half rather than relying as much on defence and an at times dominant midfield.

The Western Bulldogs (2-1) have climbed into the top eight following back-to-back victories despite missing key players including captain Marcus Bontempelli. The Dogs can take another huge step towards pushing for a finals spot with a victory over the Dockers but perhaps just as importantly is banking wins while handing games to their emerging talents.
