A week ago Tom Young was relaxing on a beach in Thailand, this morning the former Collingwood utility was one of the fresh faces taking part in a benchmark running time trial at Whitten Oval.

Wearing Bulldogs colours for the first time, Young was just eager to get back into training this morning.

“[I] had a bit of a run around with all the boys, had a bit of a run, a bit of a kick,” Young said.

“It is always good to get back into it. I was actually starting to get a bit bored at home so it is good to get back.”

The 20 year -old utility who played nine senior games for Collingwood will be looking to secure a defensive post in the Bulldogs line-up, supporting the back six in a shut-down role.

“I play down back and in the middle… I am pretty good one on one so I think I will be looking to play down, down back here so just lock my man away and provide a bit of a run off half back line for the team,” he said.

His initiation to the Bulldogs will continue as he joins the team tomorrow to fly to London for next week’s exhibition match against Port Adelaide at The Ovall. Young sees the trip as an opportunity to establish himself as part of the group.

“[I’m] pretty excited I have never been up in the Northern Hemisphere so it will be good to get up and you know, it is a great opportunity to meet everyone and get along with everyone and it is a good introduction to the Club,” he said.
