The Footscray Bulldogs have fallen one goal short of registering their second win of the 2022 Smithy’s VFL season.

It was a spirited fight from the Bulldogs, kicking a five-goal to two third quarter to bring themselves within three points at the final break.

But it was the hosts who found a way late, kicking truly in the last minute to claim the 13.7 (85) to 10.19 (79) win.

Buku Khamis enjoyed a breakout game playing predominately forward, finishing with four goals from 16 disposals and 10 marks.

Robbie McComb found plenty of the footy (28 disposals, six marks) in his return from a rib injury, while Rhylee West played his trademark game, registering 18 disposals, four tackles and a goal.

Captain Lachie Sullivan was impactful with 26 touches and three tackles.

The defeat leaves the Bulldogs with a win-loss record of 1-3, and are set to host Southport at VU Whitten Oval next Saturday afternoon.
