It’s no secret that Jake Stringer harbors ambitions to move into the Bulldogs midfield, but for the meantime the brutish Bulldog is content to make the forward line his home.
Stringer played 18 senior games in 2014, playing at both forward and back, before eventually making his home in front of goal.
The 20 year-old kicked 22 goals in the final nine matches of the home and away season, after returning from a month long stint in the VFL.
“I’ve been tossed and turned around a bit [on-field last year], but I’m pretty happy in the forward line at the minute,” Stringer said on SEN 1116 radio.
“Hopefully in the next year or two, I can do a bit of pinch hitting which would be nice as well as playing forward.”
Building his aerobic base will be a key determinant in whether Stringer finds a place amongst the young Dogs’ midfield group, as will his strong finish to 2014 both on match day and the trainingtrack.
“I suppose the penny did drop a little bit [halfway through the season], I started to get a bit more serious with my training,” Stringer said
“I just found a really big belief in my ability and to be able to do it at AFL level, and that is a big part of how I play.”
“Once I have a bit of belief behind me, I feel good, and get rolling.”
The recruiting of Tom Boyd into theBulldogs’ forward setup is something else that has Stringer feeling good.
“He’s such a big kid, and he’s going to be a superstar in the next two or three years I reckon, we just can’t wait to get out there and play with him.”
