Footscray has bolstered its squad ahead of the upcoming 2025 VFL season, signing a host of players while securing important contributors from last year’s campaign.
Former AFL player David Cuningham arrives from Carlton, following 58 games at senior level.
Initially drafted with pick No. 23 in 2015, the 27-year-old was cruelled by injury across his nine-year stint, but enjoyed a career-best outing in 2023 to average 13.8 disposals, 3.7 tackles and 2.2 marks.
Liam Hunt has also signed with the Club, joining cousins Ethan Hunt and AFL skipper Marcus Bontempelli at the Kennel.
Hunt is a best and fairest winner and VFL Team of the Year representative, who spent time with Coburg and Williamstown before returning to his long-time local club North Heidelberg in 2023.
Sebastopol midfielder Bailey Medwell, Sandringham Dragon Riely Collins, and Western Jets Xavier Kardachi and Kane Sexton will also don the red, white and blue hoops in 2025.
2024 leaders Dan Orgill, Cooper Craig-Peters and Jarrod Gilbee have re-committed, alongside Billy Crofts, Chan Hargraves, Josh Kellett, Tristan Maple, Tommy McRae, Diesel Moloney, Cam Owen, Connor Smith, Phoenix Spicer and Bailey Young.
Led by coach Stewart Edge, Footscray will kick off its 2025 campaign with a practice match against Essendon on Saturday 15 February at Mission Whitten Oval from 5pm.
The AFL sides will go head-to-head in a special pre-season hit-out that same day, at the earlier time of 2pm.
