Western Bulldogs key forward Jamarra Ugle-Hagan says making his debut on Sunday against Sydney – and childhood hero Buddy Franklin - was an incredible experience.

Despite the Bulldogs falling to the Swans by 19 points at Marvel Stadium, the 19-year-old said he was thankful for the opportunity.

“I loved every moment of it,” Ugle-Hagan told westernbulldogs.com.au.

“Obviously it’s a good experience and opportunity to get out there, but to play against Buddy and at the highest level in Australia – it’s just great.”

“(Post-game) Buddy wished me good luck for the rest of my career – he knows I look up to him, so it was pretty great to get that opportunity.”

Ugle-Hagan said he felt he managed the nerves relatively well in the lead-up to Sunday, crediting his family for their continued support.

“On the drive there, I was a bit more nervous than when I got there. I was actually pretty good throughout the whole week – I turned my phone off the day before though just because it was blowing up.

“Honestly throughout the whole year, (my family) have just been behind my back, pushing me to knock down doors and get the debut under my belt.

“I’m glad it’s under my belt now, because it’s just a huge achievement especially for my community and my family as well.”
