The Western Bulldogs finished 2013 with four father-son selections on their list, and on Tuesday a handful of prospective future father-son selections visited the Club's inner sanctum.
Michael Romero (Jose), Zane Cordy (Brian) and Darcy MacPherson (Steve) participated in a mini-clinic at the Victoria University Whitten Oval, spending time watching football edits and completing a skills session.
“The boys did some educational edits, watching some vision, did some touch work, a bit of kicking and handballing and then did some footwork with our strength and conditioning coach observing them,” Western Bulldogs Recruiting Manager Simon Dalrymple said.
“We’ve got a few coming through in the next few years, a lot of boys from probably about 11 to 17 over the next few years.”
The Bulldogs are no stranger to bringing father-son recruits into the fold, with Lachie Hunter, Tom Liberatore, Mitch Wallis and Ayce Cordy all playing senior football this season.
“Lachie Hunter had a really good year, we are wrapped with how he’s going," said Dalrymple.
"Mitch and Libba are obviously regular senior players now so they are developing really well.
"[And] Ayce Cordy as well, coming in a few years ago."
“[There’s a] rich history and we think there’s a few more to come.”
Tuesday's experience gave the young trio an opportunity to take in the Club's state of the art training facility, and get to know the place their fathers called home during their playing days.
“They love it, just seeing photos of their dads on the wall and they get a real buzz out of putting on the red, white and blue,” he said.
“It’s a really positive day for them.”
