Western Bulldogs captain Marcus Bontempelli is within two votes of pole position on the AFLCA Champion Player of the Year Award leaderboard.

Bontempelli was one of four Bulldogs among the votes in Friday night’s after the siren loss to Geelong at GMHBA Stadium.

The 25-year-old collected six votes for his 30-disposal, one-goal game to take his season tally to 66 votes.

He sits just behind Melbourne’s Clayton Oliver (68 votes) with nine rounds to play in 2021.

Geelong defender Tom Stewart was the leading vote-getter on the ground, collecting nine for his 27-disposal, 14-mark night.

Midfield duo Tom Liberatore and Jack Macrae, plus defender Taylor Duryea, were also among the votes for the Bulldogs.

Liberatore collected six votes, Duryea three and Macrae two.

Macrae sits in equal-18th spot on the leaderboard, with 38 votes.
