Ending the season with a win is still firmly on the minds of Shaun Higgins and his Western Bulldogs teammates as they travel north to take on Brisbane Lions at the Gabba.

While neither team is in finals contention, Higgins said a win on Sunday would provide momentum for the Bulldogs into their pre-season campaign.

“Finishing the season off on a positive note is really important to us to give us some confidence going into the pre-season,” Higgins said.

“We’re looking for a solid performance against the Lions as they got on top of us in a number of areas the last time we played.”

The Bulldogs fell to Brisbane in round 13 this year by 58 points but the 24-year-old is adamant the season ending clash will not pose as a repeat.

After putting in competitive performances against Premiership contenders Sydney and Geelong in recent weeks, the Bulldogs are keen to finish a low-key season with a win.

“We were good in most areas against Geelong but had some small lapses where Geelong were able to score. We will be keen to produce a four quarter effort this week,” he said.

“The game also gives our younger players another platform to impress and hopefully take another step forward into next year.”

The Western Bulldogs take on the Brisbane Lions in the final showdown for the year on Sunday at the Gabba from 4:40pm.
