1. Bruce Almighty
There’s something about Josh Bruce facing North Melbourne.
Round 16, 2019: six goals.
Round 5, 2020: six goals.
Round 3, 2021: a career-best 10 goals, with six by three-quarter time.
Since joining the red, white and blue last season, he’s kicked 16 goals from two games against the Kangaroos, compared to 12 goals from 17 games against the rest of the competition.
Take a bow, Josh Bruce.
2. Foot on the gas
Credit where credit is due, North Melbourne brought the heat early.
The Bulldogs seemed scrambled – having lost emerging defender Ryan Gardner to an AC joint shoulder injury within the first minute of play – and the Roos were putting up a fight.
Mid-way through the second term, when the Bulldogs were holding onto just a 10-point lead, it would’ve been near-impossible to predict what was about to unfold.
Ruck duo Tim English and Stef Martin were impressive at stoppages, while the Bulldogs’ on-ball brigade flexed their muscles around the contest.
A five-goal to one quarter provided the Dogs with a 38-point advantage at the main break, going on to add another six after half-time.
Even heading into the final quarter 74 points up, the Bulldogs weren’t done yet, storming home with a massive 10 goals.
The Dogs also registered 98 more possessions (47 more contested), 31 more inside-50s and eight more intercept marks than their opposition, highlighting their dominance across the ground.
3. Breaking records
For the first time since 2009, the Bulldogs have started their campaign 3-0.
Earlier in the week, captain Marcus Bontempelli alluded to the fact the group had put a real emphasis on wanting to get their season off to a better start.
Thanks to a hard-fought 15-point win over Collingwood, a thrilling come-from-behind triumph over West Coast, and now a huge 128-point demolition over North Melbourne, the Bulldogs have done just that.
In fact, Good Friday’s 128-point win will also go down as the biggest winning margin in Club history, eclipsing the previous 120-point record against Melbourne in round 15, 1985.
