Rising star Bailey Smith was best afield in the Western Bulldogs’ season-opener against Collingwood, in the eyes of both coaches.

Not only did Smith win the media-voted Bob Rose-Charlie Sutton Medal, but he also claimed a perfect 10 votes in the AFL Coaches’ Association Champion Player of the Year award.

The third-year midfielder finished the night with a game-high 36 disposals and kicked two goals.

Smith was one of five Bulldogs among the votes.

Collingwood key defender Darcy Moore was next best on the ground, earning eight votes.

Midfielder Jack Macrae (35 disposals, seven tackles) and rebounding defender Bailey Williams (27 disposals, nine intercepts) both collected four votes.

Speedster Laitham Vandermeer picked up three votes for his 14-disposal, two-goal game and key back Alex Keath rounded out the voting with one, after 18 disposals and nine marks.
