Today the Western Bulldogs Football Club were informed that the Victorian Civil & Administrative Tribunal (VCAT) had handed down their decision, giving appropriate Town Planning & related approvals to enable the construction of Club Edgewater.

This facility will provide:
  • Dining and bistro areas with superb Melbourne skyline views
  • Members’ Bar
  • 300 capacity function / convention meeting and exhibition centre
  • 70 gaming machine venue
  • 52 hotel room facility
Importantly, this approval brings about the reduction of 11 Electronic Gaming Machines (EGM’s) in the community of Maribyrnong which is a first for this community.

The VCAT decision also upheld the Victorian Commission for Gamming Regulation (VCGR) decision of 24 December 2008 to approve the Western Bulldogs gaming licence for 70 EGM’s.

The decision is a resounding success for the Western Bulldogs Football Club.

This decision culminates from some five years of hard work, strategic planning and partnership with Tattersall’s and Prizac Investments, led by the Western Bulldogs.

Club President David Smorgon said, “We regard VCAT as the umpire.  They have blown the whistle and made their adjudication and the decision is very much in our Club’s favour.  This is a win for our members, this is a win for the community and this is a win for all of us in the Western region.

“We were never proposing to do anything wrong.  The VCAT decision vindicates the position the Club has held for such a long period of time during the strategic planning and development period; that is, for the provision of quality social facilities that our members and the wider community of the west rightly deserve and frankly should have,” said Smorgon.

Both the decisions of the VCGR and VCAT are available on their websites.
