Number one draft pick Jamarra Ugle-Hagan showcased his talent with a five-goal haul in a VFL practice match for the Footscray Bulldogs on Friday afternoon.
The 18-year-old had three to his name by quarter time despite the Bulldogs being slow out of the blocks and added two more in the third term.
But it wasn’t enough to get the ‘Scray home at Olympic Park, as Collingwood claimed a nine-point win – 15.12 (102) to 14.9 (93).
The Magpies had the run of the play in the first quarter and opened up a 25-point lead at quarter time.
From there, the Bulldogs found their way back into the game.
The margin was reduced to 17 points at the major break, before the Bulldogs flicked the switch in the third to open up a seven-point lead.
But the hosts had one more push – kicking four goals to one in the final term to claim the win.
Alongside Ugle-Hagan, fellow tall forward Josh Schache also made his mark on the contest, kicking three goals.
Experienced defender Easton Wood made a successful return from a hamstring injury, getting through the whole game and registering one of his trademark hangers.
The news wasn’t as good for dashing defender Ed Richards, who was among the Bulldogs’ best before being stretchered off just before three-quarter time with an ankle injury.
