2: Caleb claims Charlie

What a season it was for Caleb Daniel.

For the past couple of years, the 24-year-old had been a player on the rise.

But in 2020, he established himself as one of the game’s elite rebounding defenders.

Daniel played all 18 games for the Bulldogs. He earned his first All Australian selection and followed that up by claiming his first Charles Sutton Medal.

Looking back at the year, it’s hard to remember a game where Daniel wasn’t among the Bulldogs’ best.

He was influential in important wins – like the Gold Coast Suns and West Coast thrillers – and was arguably the Bulldogs’ best in that narrow elimination final loss to St Kilda.

The year also marked Daniel’s 100-game milestone at AFL level – and on a lighter note, saw the creation of a Twitter account dedicated to his elite foot skills.

With a star-studded midfield up the ground, Daniel was arguably the Bulldogs’ quarterback – setting up the game in front of him.

He averaged 20.2 disposals per game, including 16.6 effective disposals.

Tom Liberatore summed up Daniel’s rise – and impact in 2020 – perfectly at season’s end.

“He’s one of the best teammates I’ve ever played with. He’s extremely diligent, he’s professional, he’s selfless. He works hard up and back – every action he makes on the field is for the team and you can see that. His ball use is incredible,” he said.

“It’s great to see him earn the rewards and be acknowledged internally. You can see collectively how much people love that, he’s extremely adored and his influence on the club has gone to another level.”
