Western Bulldogs Senior Coach Brendan McCartney is adamant the Club will stay firm on their philosophy to develop their own.

Building the list from the ground up has been a key value of McCartney’s since being appointed the senior coaching role last September, however he believes securing a young, emerging player from another Club during trade week would not be straying from his vision.

“Our number one philosophy is to train our own people up and having said that, that doesn’t preclude a person still quite young in their career from another club,” McCartney said.

“I am not saying it will include that but we will look at those avenues.

“Highly likely we will continue to bring young people to this club and give them the best education we can.”

Coach McCartney has highlighted the importance of this pre-season and turnover in personnel in developing towards sustainable success in the future.

“We have to be really diligent through trade and draft period and bolster our list and continue to build a program that gives our players the best opportunity to grow,” McCartney said.
