The rebel VFLW season has been brought forward to February next year and will run alongside the 2021 NAB AFLW competition.
AFL Victoria announced the streamlined calendar for women’s football on Wednesday evening, with the 2021 NAB League Girls’ competition to also start at the same time.
The decision to bring both seasons forward will create further opportunities for aspiring AFLW players and their development, while also retaining their connection to community football.
It will also give current AFLW players the chance to plead their cases for selection each week.
12 clubs will compete in the 2021 rebel VFLW competition, with the number of games and format to be similar to previous seasons.
AFL Victoria will continue to consult with clubs, the Victorian State Government and respective Health Officers to arrange return-to-train and return-to-play protocols.
