Leading clearance winner Tom Liberatore says the Western Bulldogs will rebound from Saturday’s disappointing loss at the hands of Melbourne and take self-belief out of the final quarter turn around.
The Bulldogs came back from a 44 point deficit halfway through the third term to reduce the margin to just three points at the final siren, kicking the final seven unanswered goals and winning the second half by 26-points.
“We’ve got a pretty resilient group, I think the notion to actually know we had a chance after kicking a couple early… allowed us to get our tails up and we played a bit more aggressive when we went forward with the ball,” Liberatore said.
Establishing himself as an elite clearance winner, the 21-year-old is currently nine clear of the second ranked Josh Kennedy (Sydney) – including 12 clearances in arguably his career best performance against the Demons.
Ranked fifth in the league for average contested possessions, Liberatore is one of just three in the top 20 who also boast a disposal efficiency of higher than 70%.
The 2010 father-son selection said demanding high standards at training and on game day was vital and the Bulldogs would stick together to produce better results in the second half of the year.
“You need to do everything right in every facet of training and playing, we’ve got to stick together,” he said.
“I think we are a good enough side, which showed obviously in the last quarter.
“I don’t think it will get away from us at all, we will stick together and rebound and do our best next week.”
