The Western Bulldogs have unveiled some gems through previous rookie selections and will look to do the same in the Rookie Draft at AFL House tomorrow morning.
Eight of the current senior listed players including Captain Matthew Boyd were originally rookie listed when they started their AFL Career.
Boyd is the Bulldogs’ main rookie success story going on to play 185 games in the red, white and blue and earning the Charlie Sutton Medal in his first year as captain, but a number of other familiar faces in the Bulldogs line-up also got their start through the rookie list.
Liam Picken, Dale Morris, Brodie Moles, James Mulligan and Andrew Hooper are all rookie elevations while promising youngsters Luke Dahlhaus and Matthew Panos have been elevated to the senior list after impressing this season.
Dale Morris has continued on to play 151 games for the Bulldogs, made All Australian selection in 2008 and earned the 2011 Brad Johnson Best Team Player award as well as polling 5th in the Charlie Sutton Medal.
Liam Picken has emerged as a vital ingredient to the Bulldogs line-up due to his courageousness and unshakeable tag, playing 65 games to date, coming in at 8th in the Best and Fairest count.
Emerging livewire Dahlhaus had a breakout success in 2011 with 11 games and 11 goals in his debut season earning an elevation into the senior list and cementing his spot in the starting line-up.
Moles (17 games), Hooper (6 games) and Mulligan (3 games) have each displayed that they can play at senior level and will look to consolidate their spot in 2012.
While Matthew Panos is just beginning his AFL career and is currently untried at senior level he showed enough through the VFL this year to earn the call up.
Ex-Bulldog Jarrod Harbrow was also given his chance in the AFL through the rookie system, eventually playing 70 games for the Bulldogs before defecting to the Gold Coast Suns in their inaugural year.
The Bulldogs have one pre-season pick as well as four rookie selections in the Pre-Season and Rookie drafts which will be held tomorrow at AFL House from 11am.
