Running defender Daniel Pearce has been given the call up to play his debut game in the red, white and blue against Geelong on Friday night.

Named as an emergency on multiple occasions this season, Pearce’s impressive display for VFL affiliate Williamstown has been rewarded with the nod to play senior footy.

His rebound and athleticism out of defence and through the midfield will be a welcome addition against a solid Geelong outfit.

Describing his style to be similar to that of Robert Murphy his contribution will be valuable providing rebound out of the defensive 50.

“It is very exciting, obviously six months ago I didn’t reckon it would happen this quickly,” Pearce said.

“I played a bit of my juniors over half back and I really enjoyed that - creating that run and carry and breaking lines.”

Pearce was given a taste of senior footy during the Bulldogs NAB Cup campaign putting in a solid 15 disposal performance against North Melbourne - he also provided three rebound 50s, three inside 50s, two tackles and three ‘one percenters’.

The 19 year old was picked up with the Bulldogs 3rd Round selection of the AFL National Draft (pick no. 49 overall).
