Western Bulldogs captain Matthew Boyd has confirmed himself a Bulldog for life, extending his contract with the Club until the end of 2014.

30-year-old Boyd who lead the league for total disposals in 2012 was offered the one year contract extension at the end of the recent home and away season, which will see him continue his 10-year AFL career at the Kennel.

"It was a great show of faith from them really - they didn't have to extend my contract but they have," Boyd told the Herald Sun of the Club's offer.

"It gives me a great opportunity to keep playing football for the club that I love, but also to help bring the next group of young leaders up and try an teach them a little bit and help the, on the journey through the AFL.

"I really see that as a big part of my job in the next few years."

Boyd also told the Herald Sun he'd have no hesitation in passing on the captain's mantle if the Club believed it was the right move. He added that he'd be keen to help his successor find their feet in the high-profile role if circumstances permitted.

The 207-gamer cited Easton Wood and Mitch Wallis - both in the club's emerging leader program - as outstanding candidates to lead the Club on-field in the future if given the opportunity.

Boyd is the most recent of a series of re-signings at the Kennel, with young guns Luke Dahlhaus, Mitch Wallis and Clay Smith all recently penning new deals with the Club.
