Season Overview:
Diligent and hard-working, Daniel Cross continued to put his head down and lead by example in Season 2012. Without attracting any excess attention the veteran ranked second in average handballs at the Club, third in average disposals, third it total marks, fifth in hitouts, fifth in average tackles and third in disposal efficiency. He shifted his time between the midfield and defence, providing extra assistance and experience to the back six when needed.

By the Numbers:
A true man of consistency, there were no huge disparities in his stats from previous seasons. While he had 0.7 less clearances and 1.6 less tackles the main abnormality was that he missed the final five games through injury. His foray into the backline saw him produce a career high eight one percenters in round nine against Geelong, while he just missed out on notching a career best rebound 50s contributing five in the 16 clash with Hawthorn (his personal record is six).

Season Highlight:
Playing a major role in the Bulldogs fight back against Collingwood in round six, Cross was amongst the best in one of the Dogs most intense battles of the year. While they did not come away with the four points there were a number of very promising signs to come out of the match including Cross’s 31 disposals (15 kicks, 16 handballs) at 94% efficiency - equating to 29 effective disposals . With seven marks, three clearances, four rebound 50s and six tackles no one can deny his influence.

Pre-Season Focus:
Setting the bar in pre-season training standards, Cross will no doubt feature in aerobic and fitness testing over Summer. Taking a number of young pups under his wing throughout the season, he is likely to help mentor and provide guidance to a number of emerging players while ensuring he is in top shape for next season. Strict and dedicated in how he goes about his football, he will be itching to get out on the park after an extended time on the sidelines rehabilitating an injured AC joint.
