“I think we showed a fair bit of fight,” Eade said.
“Last week (against West Coast) was a real turning point for us the way we played and the spirit we showed. I think that was evident again today and that was pleasing. We’re pleased to win. We did kick inaccurately, though."
Eade believes that Melbourne don’t look like a team who are zero from seven.
“They almost beat the second best in the competition last week. They’re going to cause a few sides a bit of grief over the next few weeks,” Eade says.
However, Eade said that his side has yet to find their best form.
“I still thing we were playing better football at this time last year … I think we’ve been very scratchy,” Eade said.
But he put the win down to those three keys.
"It's probably desire, maybe a bit of luck thrown in, maybe having a superstar (Brad Johnson, who kicked the winning major) being able to kick a goal for you helps, but it's a bit of belief as well," Eade said.
"After we hit the front the last time I think we controlled that pretty well ... we were able to show a bit of belief and a bit of poise."
The coach defended the performance of Jason Akermanis who had a relatively quiet afternoon, managing just one goal in the final quarter.
“I think he showed a bit in his third quarter and I think his last quarter was terrific … he just needs continuity,” Eade said.
There was one club veteran that Eade insisted on discussing.
“I know he gets accolades every week but I thought Scott West’s game was just phenomenal today. The fact he got 20 possessions with a tag on him … the way he sacrificed himself and put himself into contests was terrific. I thought it was close to his best game for us this year."
