Season Overview:
Jordan Roughead was trialled in a number of positions throughout the year with much success. He showed endeavour in the forward line, demonstrating he has the capacity to provide a tall marking option - although his conversion rate at times let him down. His foray into the backline later in the year was even more impressive, holding down a key defensive post, acquitting himself admirably against many of the games leading power forwards, and proving he could be a key ingredient in the Club’s back six of 2013. Roughead also held his own in the middle providing an alternate to first choice ruckman Will Minson throughout the season.

By the Numbers:
In Season 2012 the 21 year-old equalled or beat a wide range of his personal bests including disposals (=19), marks (=9), tackles (=8), hitouts (17), one percenters (11), inside 50s (4) and rebound 50s (7). In the final six rounds Roughead averaged eight one percenters per game playing a defensive role leading him to top the statistical category at the Club for the year. He also ranked second at the Club in hitouts and seventh in total marks.

Season Highlight:
Roughead’s round 19 exploits saw him continue to play a solid role in defence, despite having limited exposure to the position previously. He amassed 17 disposals at 82% efficiency, eight marks (three contested), five rebound 50s, two tackles and nine one percenters.

Pre-Season Focus:
Flagged as a more permanent fixture in the back six for season 2013, Roughead will have a big Summer ahead working on his defensive craft. Continuing to add bulk and improve his core strength will also be beneficial for him to contend with the league’s powerhouse forwards throughout the year.
