Williamstown enters the VFL final series in winning form after a comfortable 93-point victory over Frankston yesterday.

The Dolphins entered the Frankston Oval clash full of confidence after an upset win over Coburg the week before, but invariably proved no match for the strong Williamstown outfit.

After a tight opening term that saw Frankston load numbers behind the ball, the Seagulls were able to break free after the first break, scoring frequently.

Williamstown piled on 17 goals to three after quarter time, coasting to a comprehensive victory that secured second place on the ladder and a qualifying final berth against North Ballarat.

Nathan Giles, Andrew Hooper, Zeph Skinner and Brennan Stack were all added to the side that beat Box Hill last week, with Giles making his senior debut for the club.

Frankston made use of a strong breeze in the first quarter, showing the energy and work rate that helped them defeat Coburg the previous round. Restricting the Gulls to just three goals, the Dolphins kicked three of their own and entered the first break with a three point lead.

Kicking with the breeze in the second quarter, Williamstown swung momentum their way and applied scoreboard pressure. A six goal to none quarter saw Matthew Panos kick the first of his six goals for the game, while the work rate of Sam Reid, Ben Jolley and Brett Goodes created many opportunities up forward.

Dane Rampe and Jack Frost continued their form down back, restricting the Dolphins to just two points for the term. At the main break, the Gulls held a 35-point advantage.

Running with the breeze in the third quarter, Frankston failed to capitalise on the advantage as Williamstown kicked five goals to three for the term

Matthew Panos continued to lead the way up forward, with Mitch Hahn also making his presence felt.
Meanwhile, Lindsay Gilbee created plenty of drive from the back half as the Seagulls found ways to slice open the Frankston defence.

Running away with the game, Williamstown kicked six goals to none in the final term ensuring the 93 point victory and the club’s fourteenth win of the home and away season.
