Our AFL draftees weren’t the only new recruits on the training track last weekend, with two special recruits joining the playing group for the Super Saturday Training Session.

‘Draft Me’ competition winners Donald Ross and Mitch Munro were given a rare inner sanctum experience, taken behind the scenes at Whitten Oval and assisting the trainers with their duties during the open training session.

Donald Ross had an added reason to celebrate his competition win. Saturday was also his birthday.

“All in all it was a good experience,” Ross said.

“I got to see the dealings inside the football club which you don’t necessarily know from the outside world.”

The prize included a tour through the Whitten Oval facilities as well as a behind the scenes look into the public training session and the chance to meet the new coaching staff and playing group.

The chance to meet their idols and become part of the football department for a day was a special highlight for the competition winners.

“I got to meet the new coaching staff, interact with the players and I also got a tour through the new facilities,” he said.

“I saw the new training centre and the gym and I saw the new theatrette where they discuss all their team tactics.

“It is definitely an upgrade from the last time I saw them which was three or four years ago.”
