The future of the Western Bulldogs forward line is beginning to look more potent, with stalwart Daniel Giansiracusa impressed by his team’s efforts on Sunday against Port Adelaide.

While inaccuracy in front of goal hampered their efforts slightly, Giansiracusa was buoyed by the contributions of his fellow teammates in the forward line - especially the emerging talent.

Each of the forwards had their hand in multiple scoring opportunities, with mature aged recruit Tory Dickson leading the goal tally, slotting through four.

“It has obviously been a bit of a criticism in terms of how many times we go inside 50 and haven’t been able to generate scores, so it is a positive and something we are working really hard on,” Giansiracusa said.

“The young guys played really well today Tory [Dickson], Ayce [Cordy], [Jordan] Roughead, [Liam] Jones, they all showed something.

“I don’t think there were too many guys down - it was a pretty even contribution from everyone.

“Probably if you are going to be picky we should have kicked a lot straighter but these things happen in footy.”

While the conversion rate was less than desired, the Bulldogs better capitalised on their opportunities in the forward line creating a scoring shot from every 1.97 inside 50s - marking their best result this season.

Overall, Giansiracusa said the win can be attributed to repeatedly winning the contested ball with the Bulldogs racking up 29 more contested possessions than their opposition.

An improvement in overall ball use across the ground also contributed to the 38 point defeat over Port Adelaide.

“We will review it all tomorrow, I think the contested ball was fantastic which we are trying to pride ourselves on a bit and we used the ball a lot better today,” he said.

“I think we haven’t lost focus that we are going to try to be as consistent as possible win, lose or draw throughout the season, [Senior Coach Brendan McCartney] is big on that.

“There are things in the last quarter that we have to work on - obviously it is still a work in progress and we are looking forward to the second half of the year.”

Solidifying the win in what was coined the Charlie Sutton Tribute match was all the more special for the playing group and Club alike.

“I think we were aware of it. It was a good win… so very happy on what is a pretty special day at the Club,” Giansiracusa said.

“Obviously he is a pretty revered figure at the [Bulldogs] - we had the [memorial] service on Friday and it was a pretty good day for the footy club.

“It wasn’t lost on the players.”
