Season Overview:
After injuries held him back in previous years, Ayce Cordy embraced a near full pre-season bulking up in the gym - no mean feat for the 202cm ruckman. After playing in all four rounds of the Bulldogs NAB Cup campaign, Cordy was unlucky to miss selection in the opening clash but quickly forced his way into the side after impressing at VFL level. While he predominantly sees himself as a ruckman, Cordy was auditioned in a number of positions particularly up forward in 2012. The ability to play a more physical game took some adjusting but he will be better for the run as he continues his development.

By the numbers:
Breaking personal bests left, right and centre in 2012, Cordy notched up career highs in disposals (13), marks (six), contested marks (four), marks inside 50 (five), tackles (seven), hitouts (11) and goals (two). When relegated to the VFL he made sure the selection committee took notice including a four goal haul against Northern Blues in an appearance that also included 16 hitouts. He followed up the week after with 36 hitouts, 16 disposals, eight tackles and five marks.
Season Highlight:
While the GWS Giants clash was seen as his breakout game, it was round 12 against Port Adelaide where he had the biggest influence. Despite only eight disposals (five contested possessions) to his name Cordy provided a much needed target in the forward line taking six strong grabs (four contested). Five of those marks were in fact inside the Bulldogs 50m arc, making him even more dangerous. Making every touch count he finished with two goals, two behinds and one goal assist.
Pre-Season Focus:
One of the 2008 recruit’s main upsides has always been his agility for his size, yet carrying all the extra weight has restricted him this season. The pre-season will still focus on adding weight and developing core strength but an added emphasis will likely be on regaining some of his speed and agility to boost his work at ground level. Another full pre-season should give him a good base to start pushing for a regular senior berth in 2013 and making more of an impact.
