Today the Whitten Oval played host to one of Variety’s great initiatives, the annual ‘Bikes for Kids’ program.

Now in its seventh year, the program is one of many activities Variety coordinates to improve the lives of Special Needs Children.

A total of $227,000 was raised during the 2009 event, ensuring 1120 Victorian children will receive a new bike just in time for Christmas, thanks to the annual 3AW Variety Radiothon.

Variety Victoria CEO Norm Hutton said the bike presentation program was one of the most rewarding initiatives on the charity’s calendar.

“Seeing the big smiles on children’s faces as they reach for the handlebars of their new bikes brightens everyone’s day,” Mr Hutton said.

It was great to see children of all ages celebrating their new bikes and enjoying the chance to meet Western Bulldogs mascot ‘Woofer’, who came along to join in the fun.
