From a footballer that loved his career at the Kennel, Scott Wynd is once again loving life back at the Dogs - this time it's with the Dogs of the greyhound variety.

In a slight change of pace from his on-field days, the Western Bulldogs Hall of Famer has taken up ownership of a growing stable of greyhounds including 'Charlie,' who under the racing name Jess Umbridge recently secured the 2011/12 Healesville Greyhound of the Year award with eight wins at the track this season.

“We’ve been very fortunate to get a greyhound this good first up and to win the Healesville Greyhound of the Year is a real honour,” said Wynd.

“The dog was lucky to race at all after injuring his stopper bone just prior to the start of his career.

"My wife Jodie deserves a lot of credit as she regularly took him to the vet, while his trainer Joyce Condon and her son Dave have also shown a lot of patience with him.”

“My family and I have been going to Healesville every 3-4 weeks to watch him race and it’s a lot of fun.

"I remember when I was playing footy I would always get nervous before any match, and it is a similar feeling when you are about to watch your dog race.

"Your blood flows a bit quicker than usual and it’s pretty exciting.”

“Greyhound racing is not an overly expensive sport to be involved in and to be able to give our dog a pat after he races is a great thrill and a real family involvement.”

The Wynds have invested in some more greyhound pups, which will hit the track next year, with family and friends including fellow former Western Bulldog’s big man Glenn Coleman.
