AFL talent guru Kevin Sheehan has released his annual list of the nation's top 30 prospects.

Not surprisingly, likely top five draft picks Lachie Whitfield, Jimmy Toumpas and Oliver Wines all feature, but there are some surprises.

South Australian ruckman Brodie Grundy is considered the best big man in this year's crop, but Sheehan has also nominated Calder Cannons ruckman Liam McBean.

Thanks to Atherstone, WIN lunch with the Dogs Draftees.

McBean, more than 200cm tall but lightly framed, played mainly as a key defender for Vic Metro at this year's NAB AFL Under-18 championships.

"His agility for a 203cm [player] is rare, which allows him to win ground balls to complement his overhead marking," Sheehan said.

With key position players in high demand, tall defenders Tom Clurey and Aiden Corr have also made Sheehan's list.

Murray Bushranger Clurey's excellent results in the beep test and 3km time trial made him a standout at this year's NAB AFL Combine.

"His ability to run all day was confirmed when he recorded a 15.1 beep test at the NAB AFL Draft Combine in extremely hot conditions," Sheehan said.

"This separates him from other tall defenders."

Corr, from the Northern Knights and Vic Metro, performed well in the 20m sprint and kicking test at the combine.

"His closing speed together with his team orientation gives him the tools to close down on the oppositions most athletic tall forward," Sheehan said.

There are two Tasmanians in the list - midfielder Jesse Lonergan and defender Jackson Thurlow - alongside 19 Victorians, seven South Australians and two West Australians.

As in previous years, Sheehan, the AFL's national and international talent manager, has not ranked his prospects in order.

The draft will be held on the Gold Coast on November 22.
