BRENDAN McCartney says the Western Bulldogs are hell-bent on turning themselves into a "proper footy club" after a disappointing finish to their 2012 season.

Sunday night's 67-point loss to the Brisbane Lions at the Gabba was the Bulldogs 11th straight to finish the season.

McCartney said it had undone some good work of previous weeks that included a spirited loss against Geelong last start.

"I desperately want us to get better," McCartney said.

"We know it's not going to happen in a minute or overnight. We thought we were building some reasonable form over the last couple of weeks and a lot of that went out the door tonight.

"I think we've got a big core of players who can't wait to start training again and get our club better and look better.

"We don't want to look like we did tonight. We want to look like a proper footy club and we're going to be hell-bent on doing it."

McCartney said a number of list decisions had already be made and Sunday night's loss would have little impact on the future of their players.

"You probably don't want to go through your whole career being a coaching group or club that puts a gun at people's heads and coaches that way," he said.

"You want a group of players that think so much of their teammates and their club that they happily play their role, happily put their head over the ball and are happy to run and create space for their teammates or defend the opposition."

McCartney said the upcoming draft had plenty of talent and the Bulldogs would simply be looking for the best available players.
