It takes more than goal-sense to turn heads in an AFL recruiting department, with Club’s looking for a broad range of attributes in potential forward draftees.  

Western Bulldogs Recruiting Manager Simon Dalrymple said endurance, speed and the ability to run off their direct opponent were equally important.

“The first thing you do is look where the game’s going, often forwards are playing higher up the ground so their aerobic capacity is certainly important,” Dalrymple said.

“If they are deeper, closer to the goal, can they get off their opponent - so what’s their speed like.

“Then what is their forward craft like - can they win the ball in the air and at ground level [and] their goal kicking.”
