44 students graduated from the Western Bulldogs Fresh Program last week, each receiving a full or partial completion of their Victorian Certificate of Applied Learning (VCAL).

The Fresh program, under the auspice of Victoria University, provides an alternative education service for young people looking to attain their senior secondary school leaving certificate in a flexible and supportive environment.

The program looks to foster the students’ personal growth as well as build on their academic competencies.

Since its inception in 2004 the Fresh Program has prided itself on providing opportunities to young people from marginalised backgrounds, giving them a second chance.

Mark Cholodniuk was awarded the Student of the Year Award in the Olex Excellence Awards for his commitment to both his studies and personal growth since entering the program.

VCAL Achievement Awards were also awarded to Ryan Pham and Sonnie Kongsuwan, while Kieran Quinn and Steven Degabriele took out the VCAL Improvement Awards.

The Fresh Program is run with assistance from the Western Bulldogs, Victoria University (auspice partner), Olex Australia (principle partner), Macquarie Sports and Qenos.
