Some of the country’s best ironmen were on hand to put the Bulldogs playing group through their paces during the Club’s pre-season training camp on the Sunshine Coast.
Michael King, Head Coach at the Mooloolaba Surf Life Saving Club was joined by Ali Day, winner of the Kellogg’s Nutri-Grain Ironman Series earlier this year, Luke Cuff, former Australian and World Ironman and fellow ironmen Hayden White, Blair Day and Alex Wright to test the Bulldogs’ skills in the water.
King, a renowned surf life-saving coach both in Australia and around the world, conducted board and body surfing drills, along with wading and ins and outs in the water, and says he was impressed with the level of fitness from the group.
“They’re pretty impressive young blokes, they’re a dedicated and committed bunch of guys.
“They all showed plenty of potential due to their fitness, they look really fit, that definitely helps in and out of the surf.”
The beach activity, albeit taking players out of their comfort zones, was well-received by the playing group, including Dogs rookie Daniel Pearce, who was particularly impressed with two teammates’ efforts.
“(We) had some good fun out there and learnt a few more skills in the water,” Pearce said.
“Tom Boyd… he’s a good swimmer, Koby Stevens is very good in there as well.”
The Bulldogs will continue their pre-season camp in Queensland until Thursday 5 February.
