Western Bulldogs rookie Lin Jong surprised a group of 50 adult migrants and refugees at Whitten Oval yesterday, visiting their final training session ahead of next Wednesday’s CALDplay (culturally and linguistically diverse) Cup.
The Bulldogs’ rookie of East Timorese and Taiwanese heritage gave the participants a number of tips and tricks to hone their football skills, as well as discussing his pathway into the AFL.
Participants also watched the Western Bulldogs playing group’s main training session to see the Club’s senior side in action.
The sixth annual CALDplay Cup will be held at Whitten Oval next Wednesday 19 June 2013, where newly arrived migrants and refugees will test their football skills in an AFL carnival, with both women’s and men’s teams participating.
The migrants and refugees hail from a broad range of backgrounds and currently attend AMES Footscray, Victoria University Sunshine and the Yarraville Community Centre who range from 18 to 60 years old.
The festivities are part of the Western Bulldogs’ involvement in Refugee Week (Sunday 16 June 2013 to Saturday 22 June 2013), which aims to celebrate the positive contributions of refugees and raise awareness nationwide.
