Western Bulldogs Development Coach Peter German looks at how each of the Bulldogs listed players fared in the VFL against Port Melbourne on Sunday.

Jarrad Grant: He was probably our most active and productive forward over the four quarters. In saying that he didn’t have a lot of opportunities – he was swamped a lot of the time and outnumbered. There was a bit of spark about Granty’s game that was probably one of the positives out of the game - with a nice overhead mark and some follow up work around the ground.

Jack Redpath: Jack played down back and it was his return after a bit of a layoff. He had a big job on a couple of their tall, big, bulky forwards. It was probably a mixed game with some really strong efforts and then a couple of times his inexperience down back affected his ability to position. We were reasonably happy with his performance.

Patrick Veszpremi: Patty played half forward, a bit on the wing and a bit on the ball. At times he flashed in and out of the game, using the power, strength and speed that we know he’s got but probably didn’t use it often enough over the four quarters. Was a steady game for Veszpremi.

Mark Austin: He played down back and again he had to play on their big players. They got a lot of forward entries so our defenders were under a lot of pressure during the game. Mark kept trying and he didn’t throw to towel in.

Alex Greenwood: Greeny came in for his first senior VFL game in the midfield. His stoppage work was reasonable and his defensive work was pretty good – when we reviewed his game he did a lot off the ball.

Christian Howard: Was one of our best players. He started a little slowly but as the game built we threw him on ball. He showed that when he’s willing to mix it at the contest he can actually be quite effective. He also showed his running ability and speed is up in the high category of players.

Lachie Hunter:  Was steady this week, he got a bit of the ball with 20-odd possessions. He is still moving forward with his development and showing even in a tough game, he can win enough of the ball. We’ll keep working with Lachie on his defensive transitions.

Daniel Cross: Crossy went head to head with John Baird who is one of the premier onballers in the competition. Cross got his 23 possessions, worked really hard in the conditions, I think he had ten tackles and six or seven clearances.

Tom Campbell: Tom was good in the ruck, I thought his ruck work was a lot better this week. He’s been following up really well at ground level and is adding that to his game. Forward probably didn’t have the impact we would have liked.
