Season in short:
Higgins began the season in fine form, kicking three goals in the round one win against the Brisbane Lions, amid 22 classy disposals and ten inside 50s. Unfortunately for Higgins, a serious foot injury sustained in round three sidelined the polished performer for the rest of the year. He will look with great hope towards season 2014 and the prospect of a complete recovery.
What they said:
“Shaun is a resilient character and will leave no stone unturned in his recovery from this set-back.”
- Western Bulldogs Medical Services Manager Andrew McKenzie, after sustaining his injury in round three
Stat that mattered:
It may be a case of out of sight, out of mind, but Higgins’ influence in the forward line cannot be discredited when he is on the park. A three goal haul, three behinds and ten inside 50s marked the 25-year-old’s opening game of the year. By season’s end only Ryan Griffen (6) could average more inside 50s than Higgins did in three games (5.3).
Pre-season focus:
After an extended period on the sidelines, preparing his body for the first day of pre-season will be at the the forefront of Higgins’ mind this summer. After an uninterrupted pre-season in 2013, the 25-year-old will be aiming for a repeat performance and best ready himself to expand on his 109 career game tally.
