Assistant Coach Steven King says the Western Bulldogs will enter Friday’s clash against Carlton to embed their game plan ahead of the season opener against West Coast in just 17 days.
“…the next couple weeks again are still about getting things right for round one and the upcoming season,” King said.
“There will be things that we do that we just want to see whether they work… primarily it is all about us.”
Another benefit to Friday’s double header is the chance to see a number of young Bulldogs players represent Footscray in their first full game as a stand-alone team in 2014.
“[We’re] really excited to see a few new guys that have come to the Club to see how they go, so it will be good to get there a bit earlier sit in the box and see how they go about it,” he said.
“Having our own team now we can put them in the positions that we want and get them playing the roles that we see that they will be able to fill for us at the next level.”
Eight Bulldogs players will participate in their first competitive match tomorrow, spread between the AFL and VFL sides.
The clash against Carlton and their VFL affiliate Northern Blues will also allow 2013 draftees Marcus Bontempelli and Matt Fuller to wear Bulldogs colours for the first time.
