Despite the 45 point loss against the Suns, Liam Picken can add another scalp to his collection after containing dual Brownlow Medallist Gary Ablett on Sunday.

Western Bulldogs teammate Will Minson said the bigger the challenge the more Picken thrives, and that the tagger could hold his head high.

“Liam Picken is a ferocious footballer, there’s no better match for him than someone like Gary Ablett, and he played exceptionally well against him on the weekend,” Minson said.

“I certainly know we’ve used Liam in the past on Ablett and he’s done a good job, so once again he did a great job on the weekend.

“He puts his body on the line every week, so he usually comes off pretty sore.”

Minson showed great respect for his Picken’s recent form, keeping names such as North Melbourne’s Lindsay Thomas and Essendon’s Brent Stanton quiet this season.

The All-Australian ruckman said the focus will quickly turn to Fremantle this week, as the Bulldogs tackle another strong opponent in last year’s grand finalists.

Minson said staying true to the team’s game plan and everyone playing their roles will be key to the Bulldogs putting in a stronger performance in round 11.

“There’s a lot of things we can do to turn it around,” he said.

“We’ve proven when we play the way we’re supposed to, we can match most sides.

“We know that if we play the way the coaches want us to play, then we’ll be okay.”
